Tulsa mayoral race heads to runoff in November
Three candidates vie for top spot
The race for Tulsa mayor is headed to a runoff election in November after no candidate secured a majority of the vote in Tuesday's primary election.
Voters advanced two candidates to the runoff: Monroe Nichols and Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith.
The two candidates will face off on November 5th, with the winner taking over as mayor in January 2023.
Close race
The race was unusually tight, with the top three candidates receiving just over 30% of the vote each.
Nichols led the field with approximately 29% of the vote, while Keith and former Tulsa City Councilor John Eagleton each received about 27%.
The remaining four candidates split the remaining 17% of the vote.
Runoff election
Since no candidate received a majority of the vote, the top two finishers will advance to a runoff election.
The runoff election will be held on November 5th, with the winner taking office in January 2023.
