Mazda MX-30 Electric Vehicle Debuts in the US
Limited Range and Higher Price
The 2022 Mazda MX-30, an all-electric vehicle, has recently entered the US market. However, its range of 124 miles from its 35.5kWh battery is relatively limited, with real-world estimates closer to 106 miles. Despite this, the MX-30 carries a starting price of $34,695, rising to $37,655 for higher trims.
Rotary Engine Return
Mazda is resurrecting the rotary engine with the MX-30 e-Skyactiv R-EV, although the name is somewhat awkward. This model combines a battery with a rotary engine that serves as a generator, extending the vehicle's range.
Design and Features
The 2023 Mazda MX-30 is a compact electric hatchback offered in Base and Premium Plus trim levels. Its interior features a minimalist design with a clean and spacious cabin, similar to the Japan-spec mild-hybrid version.
Despite its limitations, the Mazda MX-30 presents an alternative in the electric vehicle market. Its unique design and rotary engine-powered range extension set it apart from competitors, while its price point remains competitive for the segment.
