The Flag of the Czech Republic
History and Design
The flag of the Czech Republic is a tricolour consisting of two equal horizontal stripes, white on top and red on the bottom, with a blue isosceles triangle extending from the hoist side. The flag's width-to-length ratio is 2:3. It was first used in 1920 by the newly formed Czechoslovak Republic, and has been the flag of the Czech Republic since its independence in 1993.
Symbolism
The white stripe represents purity, peace, and freedom, while the red stripe symbolizes strength, bravery, and resilience. The blue triangle represents vigilance and determination. The colours of the flag are also said to represent the three historical lands that make up the Czech Republic: Bohemia (white), Moravia (red), and Silesia (blue).
